How We Review Products
Ossaward helps you decide whether a trending or as-seen-online product is worth your money. This page explains how we research, how we grade, what we do not do, and how we make money.
1. How we choose products
We review products people are actively searching for: viral social-media gadgets, as-seen-on-TV items, and products readers ask us about. We cover a product whether we expect it to be good or bad. Many of our verdicts tell you to skip it.
2. Our research process
- Claim audit. We list the brand’s headline claims and rate each one Supported, Partly supported or Unsupported, linking to the evidence (manufacturer specs, independent lab data, standards bodies, peer-reviewed studies where relevant).
- Owner-report analysis. We read verified-buyer reviews across major retailers, Reddit and forum threads, Trustpilot and complaint sites, looking for repeated patterns: durability, sizing, shipping, refunds. We don’t cherry-pick single reviews.
- Company check. Who sells it, where they are based, the return and refund policy, warranty, and whether the “discount” price is real.
- Market comparison. We compare the product against the 3–5 alternatives buyers usually cross-shop, on price, specs and value.
- Editorial review. A second team member checks the facts, sources and grade before publishing.
3. How we grade (A–F)
| Factor | Weight | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Does it do what it claims? | 30% | Claim audit results, owner-reported performance |
| Quality & durability | 20% | Materials, failure patterns in owner reports, warranty |
| Value for money | 20% | Real price vs. comparable products |
| Ease of use | 15% | Setup, learning curve, maintenance |
| Seller trust & support | 15% | Refund policy, complaints, company transparency |
A = excellent buy · B = good, with caveats · C = right only for some buyers · D = better options exist · F = avoid.
4. Hands-on testing
When a team member has physically used a product, we say so clearly, label the review “Hands-on tested”, describe how long and how we used it, and include our own photos or video. If a review does not carry that label, it is research-based, and we never imply otherwise.
5. Health, wellness and money topics
For products that make health claims (pain relief, sleep, breathing, skin) we cite medical and scientific sources and never present a product as a treatment. Our reviews are not medical, legal or financial advice. Talk to a qualified professional about your situation.
6. How we make money
Ossaward is reader-supported. When you buy through some links on our site we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never affect a grade: a product that pays us can still get a D or F. Brands cannot buy reviews, placements or ratings. If a brand ever sends us a free sample, we disclose it in that review. See our full affiliate disclosure.
7. Updates and corrections
We re-check prices, availability and new owner feedback regularly and show the “Updated” date at the top of every review. If you spot an error, tell us. We fix factual mistakes promptly and note significant changes on the page.
8. Who writes our reviews
Every review shows its author, with a bio on their author page. Meet the team on our About page.
